We are just 600 yds from the Fauld Explosion crater, the 3rd biggest explosion of WW2 after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In Nov 1944, 3,500 tons of High Explosives ignited in a Bomb Dump at the Fauld Gypsum Mines. The crater is 200ft deep and 400yds across. See map: the crater is just below Queen's Purse Wood.
